ある夜、車椅子のダンサーと新宿の路上で出会った。彼の肉体に対する真摯な想いに鍛え上げられた身体と踊りは、何かに捧げる祈りのようだった。彼の踊りを撮影するのではなく、カメラを手に、彼と一緒に踊った。その記録を写真に残した。

同じ日常を繰り返す私は路上を歩くのが好きだ。そこはいつも退屈で新鮮で、そこで出会うこと、もの、景色、人々に気持ちがうごく。偶然新宿の路上で知り合った彼は、その場で踊ってみせてくれた。後日見返すと、その時撮った写真が、ただの傍観者の写真でしかないことに落胆した。あの、自分が感動した彼の背中、指先、表情がただキレイに写っていただけだった。彼と踊ってみたいと思った。一緒にその中に入ってみたいと思った。写真を送るときにもう一度会えないか誘ってみた。次は写真を撮るのではなく、「目」としてパフォーマンスに参加して、一緒に踊りたかった。

二分脊椎症と共に生きてきた彼は、30歳を超えて、障害者という枠から飛び出る旅に出た。彼の個性を最大限に生かした唯一無二のパフォーマンスは、私を日常から非日常への旅に誘った。

​

踊っている最中、ただ彼を見ていた。路上は二人の世界になった。

​

遠くへ行くことだけが旅ではない。
自分自身の中に、新しいものを見つけていく。
それが旅の一つの形だと思う。

I met a dancer in a wheelchair on a street in Shinjuku. His body, trained by his sincere desire for his body, and his dance were like a prayer dedicated to something. Instead of photographing his dance, I danced with him, camera in hand. These are the photos of that record.

​

Having lived with spinal bifida, he embarked on a journey beyond the age of 30 to step out of the boundaries of disability. His one-of-a-kind performance, which made the most of his individuality, took me on a journey from the ordinary to the extraordinary. With him as my subject, I was swallowed up in the performance, not in the frame of photographing a dancer, but in myself.

​

Going far away is not the only way to journey.

It is about finding something new within oneself.

I think that is one form of journey.
